EDISON - This year’s election could make for some tense Thanksgiving table talk, especially if political differences are a part of the family.

But how do you keep the potential overheated debate off the table if members of your family are still stinging from the outcome of the election?

According to clinical psychologist Rosalind Dorlen, talk about what unites the family.

"How about what we love and like about each other,” says Dorlen. “How about talking about a member of our family, call it the family hero, and something about this person we really remember."

Many families are grappling with the holiday conversation dilemma. Dr. Dorlen says to set some ground rules.

"Before the event, they should develop a poster with a stick that you hold up and on that it should state politically free zone," says Dorlen.
