AVENEL - A family of six has lost their Avenel home in a devastating fire.

The fire started shortly after 7 p.m. on Cornell Street, and required backup from several departments in the Woodbridge Area.

Four family members were home at the time and all were able to escape safely.

One of them, 7-year-old Autumn Austria, says the fire spread so quickly there was barely enough time to warn everyone in her family. "I went into the living room and I was screaming for everyone to get out get out!"

Firefighters say the fire appears to have begun in a rear bedroom, but spread quickly due to clutter in the home.
