Authorities search for 4 boaters off Monmouth County coast

MIDDLETOWN - Authorities are searching for a sailboat with four people aboard that said it was sinking off the Monmouth County coast early this morning.

Coast Guard spokesman Charles Rowe said the 33-foot Courtney Lynn radioed it was taking on water at 3:15 a.m. Rowe said the vessel reported it was a mile west of the Naval Weapons Station Earle pier in Middletown. The operator then said the vessel was a mile east of that location.

Officials say there's been no sign of the boat or any debris. Coast Guard, state and local officials are searching from the sea, air and land. The search area has extended as far south as Long Branch.
