OLD BRIDGE - State forest fire officials say a brush fire in Old Bridge is more than 80 percent contained after it charred about 230 acres on Sunday.

State forest fire service crews and local firefighters were on the scene Monday and will remain there overnight to ensure all embers are extinguished. Forest fire helicopters will also be in the area.

About 20 homes were evacuated while firefighters from Middlesex, Monmouth and Mercer counties battled the flames. Authorities believe the fire began near Washington Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Cheesequake State Park remains closed while forest fire crews are on the scene.
