KEYPORT - A Monmouth County community is mourning the death of a borough councilman, who was killed in a car accident one day before he was due to be sworn in to his second term in office.

Authorities tell the Asbury Park Press that 53-year-old Clemente Toglia was killed yesterday when his car crossed into an oncoming traffic lane and collided with another vehicle in nearby Tinton Falls.

It's not yet known what caused the crash, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken wrist.

Keyport officials told the newspaper that they planned to go ahead with their organizational meeting on Wednesday. It was not known when or how they would replace Toglia.
