Authorities ID owner of dog thrown down garbage chute

Investigators from the New Jersey SPCA say they have identified the owner of an abused dog thrown down a garbage chute less than two weeks

NEWARK - Investigators from the New Jersey SPCA say they have identified the owner of an abused dog thrown down a garbage chute less than two weeks ago.

Authorities say they tracked down and arrested Kisha Curtis, 28, who admits that the dog, given the name Patrick by rescuers, is hers. They say the 4-year-old pit bull mix was left for dead in a Newark high-rise building, but Curtis denies throwing him down the garbage chute.

Officials say Curtis is facing two counts of abandonment and two counts of failing to provide sustenance. She is currently being held due to an outstanding warrant in Passaic County on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Curtis is due in court tomorrow.
