ATLANTIC CITY - (AP) - America's first boardwalk is alsoamong its best.
That's the word from National Geographic, which has namedAtlantic City's boardwalk as one of the best in the nation.
Another New Jersey boardwalk, in Wildwood, also made the list.
National Geographic calls Atlantic City "the grandfather ofboardwalks," adding that it anchors the seaside gambling resort.
Other top finishers, listed alphabetically, are New York's ConeyIsland; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Ocean City, Md.; Venice Beach, Calif.;Rehoboth Beach, Del.; Santa Cruz, Calif.; the Sandwich boardwalk inMassachusetts; Virginia Beach, and Wildwood.
Atlantic City's boardwalk was built in 1870 as a way to keepbeachgoers from tracking sand into oceanfront hotels.
