At least one MRSA case confirmed in Monmouth County

WALL TOWNSHIP - At least one case of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed at Wall Township High School.

Letters were given out to students at the high school, stating that there is a case of the drug resistant infection, but they did not state whether it is a student or teacher that has been affected.

The letter states that extra precautions are being taken to help avoid the bacteria from spreading. The district says additional custodial staff were brought in to disinfect the school with a heavy duty antibacterial cleaner.

Students and faculty are being urged to wash their hands and cover any open wounds. Athletes are also being asked to disinfect their sporting gear and wash their uniforms and workout clothes in hot water.
