BAYONNE - A massive multi-alarm fire badly damaged several Bayonne apartments and a restaurant Tuesday.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. at the building on the 700 block of Broadway.
Fire departments from several nearby towns responded to help fight the blaze just before 5 p.m.
The five-alarm fire raged for nearly two hours.
No one was injured, but firefighters rescued two pets from the fire and reunited them with their owners.
At least 12 families from three buildings were displaced by the fire.
A shelter has been set up at Bayonne High School for the displaced families.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
