PARAMUS - Assemblywoman Connie Wagner is trying to change a law that forbids prize money given for contests based on skill.
The current law says that competitions that give cash prizes fall under New Jersey's strict gambling laws. Under the bill, contests of skill would no longer be considered a form of unlawful gaming.
Wagner says contests based on skills such as baking and photography should not be included in the law.
The bill passed out of a committee and now heads to the full Senate.
