PARSIPPANY - More than 1,000 mourners attended today's funeral for Alex DeCroce, the New Jersey Assembly's top Republican leader who passed away Monday.

The 11-term legislator collapsed and died at the Statehouse in Trenton Monday night after the legislative session ended. Speakers at the funeral, held at Saint Peter the Apostle Church, included Gov. Chris Christie and DeCroce's son.

DeCroce is survived by his wife Betty Lou, three children, and two grandchildren. He was laid to rest at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
