ASBURY PARK - An Asbury Park police officer is among 31 people who have been charged in "Operation Dead End," a major gang sweep performed by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
In a news conference held earlier this afternoon, Acting Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced Officer Keith German, a 16-year veteran of the force, was among those arrested. German is accused of tipping off gang members and their associates about police tactics to help them avoid arrest.
German was arrested and charged with official misconduct and unauthorized access of a computer database.

The alleged gang members are accused of setting up a major racketeering enterprise and selling heroine, crack-cocaine and a form of ecstasy called "molly." Investigators say the majority of the alleged drug sales took place on the dead-end streets DeWitt Avenue and Jersey Street in Asbury Park, hence the name "Operation Dead End." The members also allegedly conspired together to commit organized thefts, burglaries and at least one robbery involving firearms.

So far, 28 of the 31 people charged have been arrested.  Three remain at large.
