ASBURY PARK - The Asbury Park police chief has decided to retire for personal reasons at the end of this month.

Chief Mark Kinman reportedly said his decision was not a result of recent violence in his city.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor has sent over additional investigators to help after four murders there so far in 2013.

Local leaders are watching to see who gets the job next, and they say it must be someone who can provide trust and transparency within the community, and help to solve these crimes.

"It's not the community's job to solve crimes," says Derrick Parreott, with the NAACP. "However, if you can develop some relationships with the community where you can get that assistance, it makes your job easier." Parreott is a former Asbury Park policeman.

The city council could promote someone from within the department or hire someone new.
