Asbury Park city council announces extended hours for lifeguards

ASBURY PARK - The Asbury Park city council announced extended hours for lifeguards today after a string of rescues and two drownings on an unsupervised beach last month.

On the night of June 20, off duty lifeguards saved four lives on an unsupervised beach. Unfortunately, a 23-year-old from Irvington and an 18-year-old from Bayonne drowned that same day.

Under the extension, lifeguards will be on duty until 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 7:00 p.m. on weekends.
