ATLANTIC CITY - A new outdoor art installation, Artlantic Wonder, is part of Atlantic City's new effort to bring culture to the casino city.
The display stands in the footprint of the old Sands casino, torn down six years ago. When plans to build a new casino fell through it left a seven-acre eyesore.
Curator Lance Fung was hired to transform the vacant lot and says all of the works of art in the installation were commissioned.
"They were all created specifically for the site, for the context of where the work is going," Fung said.
Artlantic Wonder features sculptures, a pirate ship, and the works of New Jersey artists including Robert Lach.
Artlantic Wonder has a five-year agreement to continue adding art at this location, unless a buyer is found to build on the property.
