EAST ORANGE - The arrest of a man accused of robbing a Family Dollar Store in East Orange was caught on surveillance video.
East Orange police say the man walked into the store on Springdale Avenue at 10 a.m. Monday, threatened the store clerk with a gun, and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk then told the robber he had triggered a silent alarm.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Khaiuan Purnell, left the store and was walking away from the building. Officers responded to the scene for a description of the man, who was spotted on a city surveillance camera on Park Avenue.
Police converged on the area. A gun allegedly fell out of Purnell's waistband when a detective brought him to the ground.
Purnell was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held on $150,000 bail.
