UNION - The driver of a car that struck and killed a motorcyclist on North Avenue in Union has been charged with DWI.

Anthony J. Marsal, 24, of Elizabeth, has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated in an accident that killed a New York City firefighter Friday morning, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.

John W. Monteverde, a Queens resident and 56-year-old FDNY veteran with more than three decades of service, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred this morning in the same location where a similar motorcycle accident happened just two weeks ago.

People in the area believe there is a problem with the intersection. "At night you can hear them speeding through this light 85,100 mph," says Sam Naguib.

Marsal is currently being held in Union County jail on a $100,000 bond.
