Nearly 500,000 homes are still without power in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Flooding and debris are being blamed for the slow return to normal

EDISON - Nearly 500,000 homes are still without power in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Flooding and debris are being blamed for the slow return to normal in some areas.

JCP&L is reporting over 285,000 homes and businesses without service, mostly in Central New Jersey.

PSE&G says 155,000 of its customers are without service.

Atlantic Electric says more than 52,000 customers are still in the dark.
