NEWARK - People heading to Washington, D.C. should be expecting large crowds and tight security through the weekend, especially at Newark Penn station.

Amtrak has announced a list of tips for travelers to make the journey to the nation's capital smoother.

The agency is telling passengers to print both their departure and return tickets before boarding their trains to Washington to avoid long lines at the station.

With more traffic at stations, travelers should also allow extra time to get to the station and find their boarding gates.

Amtrak also advises to pack lightly and tag your luggage.

Customers with disabilities and/or special needs should notify a station employee or on-board crew member of any special needs.

Amtrak Ambassadors wearing high-visibility vests will be on-hand to assist as well.
