Alleged drunken boat ride ends in death

Operating a boat while drunk can be just as dangerous as operating a car. Police say this point was proven this weekend as two boats

BELMAR - Operating a boat while drunk can be just as dangerous as operating a car. Police say this point was proven this weekend as two boats collided, leaving one man dead.

Police say a Boston Whaler with five people aboard and a Stingray powerboat with two people aboard collided Saturday on the Navesink River in Middletown. The owner of the Stingray, a 50-year-old man from Keansburg, was killed.

A 30-year-old man from Atlantic Highlands, who was operating the Whaler, is accused of drunken boating.

State police and the Coast Guard have cracked down on drunken boaters, but many say that it is still a problem that is all too common.
