Ali Muhammad Brown, man accused in Brendan Tevlin's death, claims he is retaliating against the US

Ali Muhammad Brown is charged with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin last June.

WEST ORANGE - A man accused of murdering four people, including Brendan Tevlin, of Livingston, says he is retaliating against the U.S. for action in the Middle East.

According to court documents from Seattle where the other murders occurred, Ali Muhammad Brown was allegedly on a "bloody crusade" for two months.

All of the victims including Tevlin were men, shot late at night with the same murder weapon. They were also fired at several times.

A memorial still sits at the intersection of Walker Road and Northfield Avenue in West Orange where 19-year-old Tevlin was shot and killed. He was sitting in his car waiting for the light to change.

Brown pleaded not guilty to the charges in New Jersey, but in Washington state, prosecutors say he not only took responsibility, but he said he was "just doing my small part."

Court documents show Brown says his "mission is vengeance" on the United States' involvement in the Middle East. "All these lives are taken every single day by America, by this government," he says. "So a life for a life."

At Seton Hall Prep, where Tevlin graduated in 2013, Monsignor Michael Kelly is still trying to grasp the loss.

"It's hard to react to," he says. "It's hard to believe that somebody would have that type of feeling."

In interviews with police, Brown said as long as there were no women, children or elderly people present, the victims were a "just kill."

Brown is currently being held at the Essex County Jail on $5 million bail. He could face the death penalty if he is extradited to Washington.
