A man accused of intentionally trying to burn down the house of an ex-girlfriend in North Plainfield has been arrested for arson.

NORTH PLAINFIELD - A man accused of intentionally trying to burn down the house of an ex-girlfriend in North Plainfield has been arrested for arson. 

Alexis Brito, 22, of Plainfield, is accused of arson, theft and endangering the welfare of a child. The Somerset County prosecutor says a young girl who lived there with her family escaped through a window.  

The fire at 91 Manning Ave. was reported just after midnight Saturday morning.

The prosecutor says investigators believe Brito took an iPad from the home before fleeing. 

Brito is is being held on $100,000 bail.
