MARTINSVILLE - Firefighters battled a brush fire that broke out early this afternoon near Chimney State Park.

The Martinsville Fire Department, the New Jersey Forest Service and the Green Knoll Fire Department were on hand to put out the flames.

The fire was eventually extinguished later in the afternoon, but fire officials say that a number of firefighters were risking injury due to fatigue and the rough terrain.

Investigators are not sure what caused the fire, but say the dry conditions helped spread the blaze.
