VERNON - The new Action Park has been open in Sussex County for a little over a week, and management says things are running smoothly.

It's the first time in nearly 18 years that the park has operated under the name Action Park. Since 1996, the attraction had been known as Mountain Creek Water Park.

The park is under new management and they are promising a better experience for patrons.

Action Park had a reputation for safety issues, but owners say they have made significant improvements.

CEO Bill Benneyan says rides are built to a higher standard than before. "In 2003, they started a new protocol which we all adhere to now, and that's pretty rigorous with inspections not only for new rides, but for every ride every year," he says.

Two new rides are expected to be open by July 4th weekend.
