MORRISVILLE, Penn. - AAA is alerting New Jersey drivers who travel out of state to be on the lookout for a new type of theft at gas stations known as "sliding."
The agency says it's happening in many of neighboring states, like Pennsylvania, where drivers often pump their own gas.
Officials say the thieves are opening passenger-side doors and stealing purses or other personal items left on the seat while drivers are at the pump.

Tracy Noble, of AAA, says New Jersey plates could indicate a driver not accustomed to using a pump.
Noble says drivers also have to be careful to look out for other distractions and keep doors locked, especially when leaving the car.
