MONTVALE - The still struggling A&P grocery store chain says it will close another 32 stores in six states, including New Jersey.

The Montvale-based Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, which operates stores under the A&P, Pathmark, Food Emporium, Food Basics and Waldbaum's banners, filed for bankruptcy protection last fall and closed 32 stores.

A&P President and Chief Executive Officer Sam Martin said yesterday in a news release, "As part of our turnaround and our ongoing review of our store footprint, we have decided to close these 32 locations."

After the latest closings, the chain will be down to about 340 stores.
