911 call in attempted robbery released

PERTH AMBOY - The 911 tapes have been released from an attempted robbery that took place on Feb. 10 in Perth Amboy.

A SWAT team surrounded a home on Lawrie Street in Perth Amboy after a 20-year-old, identified only as Beth, called police from inside her bedroom closet. On the 911 call, you can hear Beth saying that the intruder has her mom, but she can't tell if he is hitting her.

The operator kept the petrified 20-year-old on the phone until police surrounded the home and got the residents out. The suspect ran out a back door. It turned out the gun he had was fake. Police say the suspect is still on the loose. He is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s.
