9/11 first responder from Toms River dies

TOMS RIVER - A 9/11 first responder from Toms River died this morning after years of being ill.

Joe Picurro was an advocate for those that became sick after helping others at Ground Zero.

Picurro's friend Charles Giles, who was also a 9/11 first responder, says that Picurro was a great man that will never be forgotten. Giles went to Ground Zero as an EMT and Picurro went as an iron worker. Both men became sick after spending time there.

During his life, Picurro had severe respiratory ailments and other symptoms. Giles says Picurro was the 984th responder to die as a result of breathing toxic air at Ground Zero.
