89-year-old man rescued from cold temperatures

WEST LONG BRANCH - A man in Long Branch heard cries for help as he left work on Tuesday and found 89-year-old John Schmitt shaking in the cold.

Jaime Fierros says he thought he was hearing things at first, but when he found Schmitt behind the parking lot near the catering company he works for, he called the general manager, Carlos Reyes.

Reyes and Fierros were able to get Schmitt, who had taken a bad fall, to emergency crews. He is now at Monmouth Medical Center where his wife Shirley says he is recovering and hopes to be going home soon.
