JERSEY CITY - An elderly man was beaten and robbed as he walked along West Side Avenue in Jersey City Wednesday morning.
The 83-year-old victim was approached by a man asking for directions at around 10:30 a.m. The suspect led him behind a church where he attacked him.
Police examined surveillance footage from a nearby grocery store to get a description of the suspect. They say he is in his 20s, about 6 feet tall with short cornrows.

The suspect was wearing a gray sweater with stripes and dark pants.
The robber stole $40 in cash from the victim and took off on foot.
The victim was choked, but is recovering in a local hospital.
