5 students in police custody after Essex Valley School lockdown
WEST CALDWELL - Police were seen walking five students in handcuffs from the Essex Valley School in West Caldwell after a police investigation prompted a lockdown Wednesday.
Authorities say a student told a staff member at around noon that they saw another student with a gun at the school for children with emotional and behavioral problems.
Students were released from the building after 4 p.m.

Authorities say Clinton Road and Henderson Drive were closed in the area as police brought in K-9 officers and conducted a room-by-room search at the school.
The issue did not extend outside of the building and no other schools or businesses were involved, according to a text alert sent out by the West Caldwell Police Department.
Police did not say what they were investigating, but officers from at least three neighboring communities were on the scene.
