FLEMINGTON - Police in Hunterdon County are searching for five men who robbed a jewelry store at gunpoint over the weekend.

Investigators say the men entered Roman Jewelers on Route 12 at around noon on Sunday.

Witnesses say the robbers tied up employees and ordered customers onto the floor. The robbers demanded the store's jewelry from other employees and then fled in a white Chrysler 300-M and a black Audi A5 or BMW. Both vehicles may have had Pennsylvania plates.

The men, all described as black males, attempted to obscure their identities by wearing articles of clothing, hoodies and construction helmets.

Authorities say the entire incident lasted about three minutes.

"This was a disturbing and traumatic crime for those victimized by these assailants, said Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III. The store employees and customers did everything right, remaining calm and calling 911 as soon as it was safe to do so. They should be commended for their actions."
