PASSAIC - A five-alarm fire has destroyed an apartment building in Passaic, injuring five people and displacing as many as 60.

Officials say the fire began just before 4 p.m. on Washington Place. They say three women were injured and had to be rescued. Two firefighters were also hurt.

Fire departments from Passaic and other communities responded to the blaze.

Fire officials say an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but the fire chief says it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
