40 German shepherds rescued from basement of Ridgefield Park Animal Hospital
RIDGEFIELD PARK - The Bergen County SPCA rescued dozens of German shepherds from the Ridgefield Park Animal Hospital and many are now wondering if the hospital was running a puppy mill.
The SPCA raided the hospital on Main Street after receiving a complaint from a neighbor. Many dogs were found crammed in cages in the hospital's basement, with multiple dogs in crates meant for one animal. A few others were found out back.
The Bergen County Department of Health Services says 11 of the dogs were returned to their owners. The remaining 29 were put in a mobile vet clinic and taken to Bergen County's Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Teterboro, where they were evaluated.
