4-year-old boy drowns in Lafayette pond

LAFAYETTE - Rescue crews were unable to revive a 4-year-old boy yesterday who drowned in the Lafayette Town Pond.

The incident occurred during a family outing when the boy's mother notified the lifeguard that her son was missing at around 4 p.m, authorities say. They found him 15 to 20 minutes later.

The victim, Samuel Vaughan, of Bushkill, Penn. was pronounced dead at Newton Memorial Hospital.

State police say Vaughan went under while the lifeguard was rescuing another swimmer who was in distress.
