4 families displaced, Secaucus mayor injured in condo fire

SECAUCUS - Officials say four families were displaced after a fire ripped through a condo complex in northern New Jersey.

The Record reports that crews were called to the three-story building in Secaucus at around 10 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within several hours, but not before it damaged the top two floors. Each family in the four attached condos was displaced.

Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli, a former fire chief, was among the firefighters injured in the fire. He suffered burns on his face, arm and back. He was taken to Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center where he was treated and released.

None of the condo occupants were injured.

Gonnelli says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
