JERSEY CITY - Three firefighters were injured today while on the scene of a fire involving two multi-use buildings in Jersey City.

Fire crews aggressively battled the blaze on the 300 block of Grove Street. The fire was escalated to four alarms when firefighters arrived on scene.

One of the firefighters, who reportedly fell while fighting the fire, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. Two other firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Mayor Steven Fulop says at least 22 people have been displaced.

Sonia Paone, of Vancouver, is a Canadian tourist renting an apartment in the building that caught fire. She watched firefighters shoot water into her unit. Paone says all of her belongings, including her passport, were in the apartment.

Officials have not said anything about the cause of the fire, but witnesses say the fire appeared to have started in the third floor of a four-story apartment building at Grove and Bay streets.
