HARVEY CEDARS - A 3-year-old child was saved from possibly drowning on Long Beach Island Tuesday afternoon.

Police say a mother called 911 after finding her son face down in the water on a small public beach along the Barnegat Bay in Harvey Cedars at around 3 p.m.

The child was alert and never lost consciousness but was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center's trauma center in Neptune because he had ingested water.

The beach at West 75th Street was closed while emergency crews were there.
