3 West Nile cases confirmed in NJ

PASSAIC - (AP) - State health officials have confirmed threecases of West Nile virus in New Jersey this summer.

The latest case is an 86-year-old Passaic County man. He wasreleased from the intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital inPassaic on Tuesday.

The man, who was not identified, told doctors he had receivedmany mosquito bites because he spends a lot of time outdoors. West Nile virus is transmitted from infected mosquitoes thathave fed on birds that have the virus.

A 68-year-old woman from Ocean County and a 78-year-old womanfrom Essex County are the other two confirmed cases.

New Jersey reported three confirmed cases of West Nile viruslast year.
