3 NJ-based tour buses fail inspection, pulled off the road

IRVINGTON - Three tour buses from an Irvington-based company were taken off the road today by state safety inspectors.

The buses belong to Pocono Transit.  State inspectors say two of the three buses had bad brakes and that all three were deemed unsafe.

Today's surprise inspections were run by the state and come after a string of tour bus accidents in recent months, including an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike back in March that killed two people.

Pocono Transit will now have to pay fines in addition to fixing the problems on the buses before it can operate the vehicles again.

The state says it gave safety inspections to a total of 13 buses today and five of them failed.
