NEW BRUNSWICK - Three children were injured after authorities say they were struck while walking home from school by New Brunswick's fire director.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says Robert Rawls was on duty and driving a city-owned SUV when the accident occurred on Livingstone Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the two 14-year-old girls and a 6-year-old boy were crossing at the Delavan Street intersection.
The kids were all taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A hospital spokesperson says two of the children are in good condition and a third is in fair condition. Their names have not been released.
Rawls remained at the scene and was taken to a hospital for an undisclosed evaluation.
No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
