3 dead after car crashes into Pine Beach Elementary School

PINE BEACH - Authorities say three people died today after a car slammed into the side of Pine Beach Elementary School.

Chief John Sgro, of the Pine Beach Police Department, said, "We believe the vehicle came down Merion Avenue straight-on and hit the side of the school building, head-on."

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office identified the driver as Matthew Budesa, 20, of Pine Beach. The female riding in the front passenger seat was identified as Kimberly Van Gorden, 20, of Beachwood. The third victim has been identified Matthew H. Witzgall, 21, of Toms River. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office reported earlier Kimberly's last name as Van Garden.

According to authorities, none of the victims were wearing a seat belt and no skid marks were found. The relationship between the three victims is unclear.Chopper 12 footage from over the scene earlier today showed a 2011 black Hyundai Accent that apparently overturned and came to rest against the school after the crash.

Officials said the impact left a 6-foot-by-6-foot hole in the side of the building. They said a school employee found the car at around 6:45 a.m. The school was not open and no students were present.

The accident remains under investigation and autopsies are planned.
