3 dead, 2 injured in single-car accident in Hillside

HILLSIDE - Police are investigating a single-car accident that happened in Hillside early this morning, leaving three people dead and two injured.

Investigators say the car was traveling on Route 22 at speeds around 100 miles per hour.

The driver, identified as Luis Dassantos, was killed, as were two of his four passengers, Robson Pinherio and Danilo Xavier. All five victims were in their 20s.

Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.

Police say Route 22 has become notorious for fatal accidents, including one that happened only three weeks ago.
