FORT LEE - Those that lost their homes due to a fire in Fort Lee say they were lucky.

The fire started late Thursday afternoon at 494 West St. The fire went to three alarms and destroyed two homes, but those who lost their homes say they are grateful since no one was hurt.

Residents either got out on their own or weren't home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the four remaining units, but with power and gas cut off the families who live in those town homes were told they couldn't stay in the homes Thursday night.

One homeowner says she can't thank police and fire personnel enough, helping to keep her calm as everything she owned went up in flames.
