NEWARK - Police arrested yesterday a second suspect in the fatal shooting of a Seton Hall University student at an East Orange house party last weekend, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Marcus Bascus, 19, was taken into custody in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. by officers of the U.S. Marshal Service, Essex County Prosecutor's Office and East Orange Police. Police say Bascus provided the gun that was used in the shooting.

A judge in Luzerne County, Pa. ordered that Bascus be held without bail after an arraignment hearing earlier today. He is charged with murder, conspiracy, attempted murder and weapons offenses.

The arrest came just hours after the alleged gunman, Nicholas Welch, 25, pleaded not guilty to murder, conspiracy to commit murder, four counts of attempted murder, burglary and weapons offenses.

Authorities say Welch returned with a gun and opened fire after he was refused admittance to the party.

Jessica Moore, a 19-year-old Seton Hall sophomore, was shot at the off-campus party on South Clinton Street. She died Saturday afternoon. Four others were injured in the shooting.
