HANOVER - A second person has died after a five-ton generator fell from a crane at a construction site in Hanover Township.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. at 10 Troy Hills Road, the site of what will eventually be the new Whippany Fire House.

Mayor Ronald Francioli says that a strap on a crane lowering the generator snapped, causing the generator to fall on the two workers.

One worker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The second worker was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries.

OSHA spokeswoman Lenore Uddyback-Forston says that an inspector has been dispatched to the work site to investigate the accident.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
