29 assault weapon charges across Garden State today

EDISON - State police arrested 29 people from all over the state today in connection with illegal assault weapons.

Police say that more than 100 guns have been confiscated from urban areas so far this year, surpassing the gun seizure total from last year.

Among those accused is a Newark clothing store owner who police say had an "arsenal of weapons" inside his South Orange Avenue shop. Also being held is a Marine sniper from Monmouth County who is accused of trying to sell an undercover officer a sniper rifle and other illegal assault weapons.

Col. Rick Fuentes, the head of the state police, credits the new Weapons Trafficking Bureau.
