PERTH AMBOY - A toddler is expected to make a full recovery after being pulled from an above-ground pool in the backyard of a Perth Amboy home.

The family says they thought the 2-year-old was watching TV, but Samaya Peralta actually managed to gain access to the pool at around 9:30 a.m.

Her mother says she looked outside and saw the girl in the water. She ran outside, jumped in the water and pulled her out. The mother and the girl's grandfather performed CPR while a neighbor called 911.

Responders arrived to help, and the child was taken to St. Peter's hospital. She is in critical condition but is expected to recover.

Neighbors say the family is very conscientious about the pool and the gate, but that it must have gotten away from them today.
