KEANSBURG - Two porpoises have become stuck in the Waackaack Creek in Keansburg.

The animals were apparently chasing bait fish up the creek from the Raritan Bay and got stranded in the low tide.

Wildlife experts say that the porpoises seem to be in fine condition. They are working on a way to get them out of the creek.

“We hope once the tide goes out that they’ll go out in the bay,” says Keansburg Mayor George Hoff.

As a lifelong resident of Keansburg, Mayor Hoff says that this is the first time in 44 years that he’s seen an aquatic animal get stuck in the creek.
