2 NJ high school students face child pornography charges in alleged 'sexting' scandal
LITTLE FALLS - Two high school students face criminal charges in connection with an alleged sexting scandal.
A 16-year-old male from West Orange and a 16-year-old girl from Little Falls have been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.
Detective Sgt. James Briggs, of the Little Falls Police Department, says police seized a phone from the teen girl, who attends Passaic Valley High School. He says police allegedly discovered eight nude pictures of a 17-year-old girl from Passaic Valley High School, as well as three videos that show students in sexual situations.

Police believe distribution of the X-rated images began when the male student sent the nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend to the girl, who then threatened to post them on Instagram. Her phone is a key piece of evidence and will be turned over to the prosecutor's office.
The school's superintendent declined comment, citing the ongoing investigation, but said the district would be calling parents to alert them to the situation. He said parents should be vigilant in monitoring how their teens use technology and social media.
Anyone with information about the alleged sexting is asked to call Little Falls police.
